Hartford Gets Greener with Solar Powered Parking Meters

In November, The Hartford Parking Authority started installing 250 solar-powered "pay-and-display" parking meters in downtown Hartford.  The project is just about complete and the city has managed to replace roughly 1500 traditional coin-fed meters with the $13,000-a-unit kiosks. The new meters look pretty cool and are another part of the Mayor’s green initiatives.  Run by a small solar panel mounted on top of a kiosk, the meters cover several parking spots and still accept coins as well as credit cards. New State Green Building Code Becomes Law

 

Hartford, Conn., Jan. 5 - As of January 1, 2009, Connecticut become the second state after California to have a green building mandate. The law, adopted in 2007, requires that all privately financed construction with projected costs exceeding $5 million meet LEED or similar standards.

 

 

New Leadership at UTC Power

 

Hartford, Conn., Jan. 5 - Hartford based United Technologies has announced that J. Michael McQuade, senior vice president for science and technology, has taken over the duties of president of UTC Power, the company's fuel cell division.
