Green searches: Google.org – the search giant’s philanthropic arm - this month issued a $10 million request for proposals for projects that will promote the commercialization of plug-in hybrid vehicles, electric cars and vehicle-to-grid technology.
Eco Hollywood: As part of Fox’s “Green with Emmy” campaign, the show’s Shrine Auditorium was powered by renewable energy for the month of September, sourced from a combination of solar energy, wind energy and hydropower.
Eco snacks: SunChips, Frito-Lay’s brand of multigrain snacks, is adding a Green-e logo, a designation from the Center for Resource Solutions used to indicate that a product offsets its carbon emissions, across the full line of SunChips snacks.
Green attitudes: Gen Y is split down the middle on the influence a retailer’s environmental policy and sustainability had on their shopping habits with 50 percent of respondents saying a retailer’s policy did influence their shopping behavior, according to research from Maritz.
Greener copies: Xerox will open a new $60 million manufacturing plant that will produce a toner it is touting that is more environmentally friendly. The EA toner Xerox spent eight years developing is more environmentally friendly because of the way it is made and how it functions.
Green language: Carbon footprint, green audit and Chelsea tractor are among the raft of environmental terms being added to the latest Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, published this month in the U.S. and Britain.
Eco sports: Sports legend and social activist Billie Jean King is launching GreenSlam, an eco-conscious initiative to harness the power of sports, beginning with tennis, to create socially responsible change with positive impact on the environment.
Green computers: Dell says it will become the first PC maker in the industry to make its worldwide operations carbon neutral by next year.
