Daymon Worldwide Turns On Solar Array

Stamford, Conn. – According to an article in the Stamford Advocate last week, Stamford based Daymon WorldWide, a private label broker and consumer events expert announced the installation of a 300-kilowatt solar system atop the 140,000-square-foot resource center in the Soundview Farms business complex.

The cost of the $2.4 million project was offset by a 30 percent federal tax credit and a $1.4 million grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and a $60,000 Southwest Connecticut Premium, based on the level of electricity to be generated at Daymon.

The panels, which span 35,273 square feet, were installed by Mercury Solar of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Greenwich, and will generate more than 350,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year, about the same amount that 70 medium-size homes would use.

The building houses 250 Daymon associates and employees of tenants Franklin Hamilton, UBS Sempra Commodities and SAC Capital.

Realizing that federal funding for solar projects such as the one planned by Daymon could expire at the end of last year, a 20-person team toiled to install panels in time, said Paul Ahern, director of business development at American Capital Energy, which oversaw the project.

“We had to make sure it was operational by Dec. 31. We worked on Christmas Day,” said Ahern, who said he was relieved when he learned before the end of the year that Congress had passed a new economic stimulus package that included the federal tax credit. “The renewable energy industry was waiting with baited breath.”
