Product Sustainability Engineer

UTC Power, South Windsor, CT

 

UTC Power is a proven, single-source provider of clean power solutions. As one of the newest members of the United Technologies Corp. family, UTC Power is able to draw on the expertise of some of the more established divisions, including the industry leaders in fuel cell technology and building heating, cooling and control systems.

 

Create and deploy Design for Sustainability methods, metrics and tools in support of UTC 2015 Product Sustainability Goals. Improve and implement cross discipline standard work, methods and tools to identify, track and eliminate UTC identified Materials of Concern (MOCs) in support of UTC MOC elimination goals. Interface with Supply Chain Management to develop methods and tools for gathering component chemical content information for use in MOC elimination and REACH compliance. Interface with UTC Corporate DfS, MOC elimination and REACH teams. Disseminate guidance and UTC best practices from these teams at UTC Power. Work seamlessly with UTC Power product development teams and functional managers to successfully implement and audit these DfS and MOC reduction and REACH compliance programs, taking ownership of deliverables and driving to closure of needed actions.

 

Secondary duties may include performing product safety analyses and certification assessments including Hazard Analysis, FMEA and Product Certification Gap Analysis and Planning.

 


Requirements:


Minimum required education is a BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Alternate Engineering or Science degree may be considered if required experience is very strong.

 

Minimum 8 years in an Engineering environment, with at least 4 years experience in Product Design for Sustainability and Design for Chemical Safety/Regulation disciplines. Experience performing product evaluations and mitigations for UTC MOCs. Program metric development, standard work development, training, implementation and auditing.

 

Knowledge of EU REACH regulation required. Experience successfully guiding companies through REACH program implementation and product introduction preferred. Familiarity with other US and international product chemical content regulations highly beneficial.

 

Requires strong verbal, written and collaboration skills to bridge gaps between functional groups. Organizational savvy a must. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Design for Safety methods and experience, use of hazard analysis and FMEA in new product development also helpful.

Project Associate (Durational)

 

Organization that fosters the use of energy from clean, renewable sources is in need of a talented project associate to help further our goals. The primary focus of the position involves the full life cycle of project development incl. financial analysis, w/additional duties to include program management.

 

Required: BA in environmental science, engineering, business administration, or related, & direct prior experience (2+ yrs) in project management/program development w/particular emphasis on renewable energy companies/projects. A creative yet detail oriented strong collaborator who can handle multiple tasks and is self-driven will succeed in this position. Knowledge of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies & an advanced degree a plus.

 

This is a durational position for a period of one (1) year with the option for extending for up to one (1) additional year.
